Skin & You

Knowing a little about your skin will help you appreciate why certain things are good for it & others are not.
Understand your skin & you are half way to a glowing healthy complexion.

The skin is formed from three main layers i.e. epidermis, dermis& hypodermis .
The epidermis is the outer most layers. Its thickness varies from area to area & it is microscopic 0.2mm thick on the face.
It protects your body from invasion, infection & helps to seal in moisture.
It is built up of several layers of living cells which are then topped by sheets of dead cells.
It is constantly growing with new cells being produced at its base. They quickly die and are pushed up to the surface by the arrival of new ones.
These dead cells eventually flat away, which means that every new layer of skin is another chance to have soft, glowing complexion.
The dermis is usually 1.8mm thick. It is composed of a fibrous protein called collagen, elastic which makes the skin supple & a network of blood vessel, nerves, oil & sweat glands, pores& hair follicles.
The hypodermis is the tissue beneath both the epidermis & the dermis. It contains muscles, veins & fat cells & its thickness varies according to the part of the body.
The sebum & sweat produced by the oil & sweat gland in the dermis form a hypo-lipid film on the skin.
This film known as the “acid matter” lubricates the skin’s surface, helps to repel bacteria & protects against irritation.
The acid matter maintains the skin’s slightly acid pH level.
Skin is your body’s second largest organ covering every single surface of your body.

Every person can have a beautiful skin no matter what his/her age race or coloring.
There is a secret to understand how your skin functions & how to treat it correctly.
The sebaceous glands are most concentrated on the scalp face particularly on the nose, cheeks, chin & fore head, which is why these are usually the most oily areas of your skin.
Sweat glands are all over your body.
When sweat evaporates on the skin surface, the temperature of your skin drops.
Facial hairs grow from the hair follicles.
They can help to keep your warm by trapping air underneath them.
There are no hair on the soles of your feet & plains of your hand.
